Summary: They cast Lucifer back to Heaven but left behind Sam Winchester, five years of his life gone and dropped into the middle of a post-apocalyptic world. The survivors are scared of him, his brother doesn't seem to want him, and the only hand extended is that of an ex-angel.
But just because Lucifer is gone, doesn't mean the world is safe. Croats and demons still walk the surface. And Chuck still has one more prophecy to write.
After the second rise and fall of Lucifer, a dragon will be born that will scour the Earth of evil, leaving it for the survivors of humanity-- Those who have fought to the end and proven themselves worthy.

Well, it's endverse, so it's 2014 Dean. And for being an asshole, he's kind of an understandable asshole for some of the plot points. He doesn't automatically welcome Sam back, and has a hard time even speaking to him.
I read this, found the story kind of odd, but don't have the time to do a full summary now.

Like the anon above me said, Dean is his assholish 2014!self which would be fine if he didn't spend most of the fic ~sky-diving. For a story that has Sam being mysteriously returned to Camp Chitaqua, there's very little Dean presence, which doesn't make sense for the setting or the the story set-up.
Anyway, I was pretty disappointed with this one :(

I was leery because of the summary, but I've read some damn hot Dean/Cas porn by thunder_nari (though she can be hit or miss re said porn) and figured she'd probably not Dean bash. I feel justified in my optimism

What you're saying seems like a logical extension of the characterization in the fic but I can't help but feel that it's more of your interpretation and your effort in making the story make sense in light of the canon rather than something actually present in the story. Or maybe it's just not present there *enough* for my tastes.
IDK, I just feel like this would have been a much better story if the author went the way of Asunder and made the reconciliation / rapprochement between Sam & Dean into a more prominent story element. Or s/he could have dispensed with Dean altogether; after all, 2014!Dean is the only one of TFW who's unambiguously dead in 'The End', so she could have chosen the end of that episode as her jumping-off point, with Cas and Sam picking up the pieces & creating new life together XD
/One of the nonnies above, dissatisfied with Dean's lack of presence in the story.

Fair enough.
I guess I'm also not upset over Dean's role as much because it is, in the end, a story about Cas and Sam and not Dean. It's a Cas/Sam story, so I wasn't looking for Dean to be a significant part of the it or even necessarily be in it. It was only the summary that made it sound like the story might be bashing Dean or using him as the Evil Obstacle To True Love (which, since I do lean to the Dean end of the Dean-Sam spectrum, would have been an instant deal-breaker). That was my perspective going in, and that might be why I was more satisfied with Dean's role; my expectations were much lower. :)
