Summary: [AU, Bonded!Boys, sequel to The Word of Us] Secrets wear on you all the time, slowly building stress until eventually something has to break. Jared and Jensen live in a world where their entire relationship is considered impossible--members of the same sex don't mate with each other according to the Church and the government--and they hide in plain sight. sa (last tiny bit)
But. The writer indicated there's another part to come.
And I hope that third part will be more enjoyable again and offer more of the kind of characterization and more closely focused plot that I liked about the first installment. (Or more successfully go in a completely different direction.) So that this part just feels like a slight misstep in an otherwise entertaining psychic soulful matingbond 'verse.

I have to agree with the others that this sequel was a disappointment. I really wanted to love this story--especially with how much I enjoyed last year's--but I just didn't. The typos and SPAG errors were sloppy. A simple readthrough could have corrected a good amount of those, and that really snagged me up. I agree that the story was a bit emotionless. The supposed deep affection between J&J was something the author kept telling us was there, but it was never shown. Apologizing for lack of porn doesn't make up for that; vivid sex scenes aren't the only way to show that characters are in love. I also felt that the climax of the story was pretty much a blink-and-you-miss-it moment.
(Also, I was peeved that it wasn't a standalone. I read The World of Us and still found myself stumbling to remember how it left off, so I doubt anyone could have picked it up without reading last year's story first.)

Another nonnie who enjoyed last year's fic and was disappointed by the sequel. My main issue was that this felt like a really overextended epilogue to the previous fic. The end of the previous fic has Jared telling his mom that he HAS bonded, and that Jensen is his mate.
That exact same scene, with the same dialogue, is also the climactic moment of THIS fic. It's like she decided to tell us more in depth about the stuff from the epilogue of the previous fic. IDK, it seemed to me to be a very strange storytelling idea.
The SPAG is also pretty messed up. Was it betaed at all? That's sort of how my fic looks before anyone's looked at it.
