Sam and Dean: the old(er) years

Feb 10, 2011 16:24

Every once in a while I like to read stories where Sam and Dean have gone on to live nice, long lives. (or are at least middle-aged. heh) Stories in which they have somehow managed to avoid death and deals and hunts gone wrong and all the other things that could send them to early graves.

Here are a few of those stories.

paving a path through the garden of our lives by bentile
2,200 words, Sam/Dean (PG-13)
Summary:There were times when Sam doubted he'd ever have (or deserve) this: at nearly 60, Dean and he are still alive, settled down and happily together.
A happy, schmoopy older boys fic.

1,040 words, Sam/Dean (PG-13)
No summary given by the author, but it can basically be summed up as Sam and Dean, much later in life. Not exactly a happy fic, yet somehow I find it satisfying to read.

antioch,illinois by cherie_morte
8,838 words, Sam/Dean (PG-13)
Summary:Six years ago, Sam and Dean Winchester saved Antioch, Illinois from a Dragon. Hailed as heroes, they become the unofficial mayors of a town that is half Stepford, half a haven for hunters. After a few years in the spotlight, however, Dean just wants some time alone with his brother. They go on a hunt to celebrate his 40th birthday but things don’t really go as planned.
The author's summary pretty much says it all. They started out in Antioch for a hunt, and pretty much never left. Domestic fic mixed with case fic mixed with just enough schmoop. A fun read.

the park by justthismorning
word count not given (my guess, around 2,000), Sam/Dean (G)
Summary: Sam and Dean haven't been hunting for a very long time. Now they just spend their days wandering the park.
WARNING: death fic.
This story! I don't even know. To me, it is really bittersweet. They are old, and Dean's memory is on the decline. Yet, they are still them.
