"Son when you grow up, will you be, the saviour of the broken, the beaten and the damned" -from Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance
Sam was long gone, only Samuel remained after Lucifer appeared when the blinding white light had died down and after he showed him the truth. Sam was reluctant at first when Lucifer first told him of his true parentage, of how it was his blood, not Azazel’s that ran through him. Azazel only acted as a ‘mailman of sorts’ as he described it. It took him a few days to break after Lucifer took him to see the world as it truly was, with all of the human suffering caused by the human race, after he was told, over and over how, he was to be their saviour and would be able to finally ride the world of this inhumanity. Sam forced himself to tell his mind that he knew that it wasn’t true, but after so many times of being shown of what he could do for the world, what he could do to save innocent people, just by accepting his fate, and his true father, Sam broke, and Samuel emerged.
When the war finally broke out, the demons were reckless, they spread fear, and blood throughout the world. They fought mercilessly with angels, and allied with other creatures that Sam used to fight, and preyed on innocent human beings, that is, until Samuel put a stop to it. There were, of course, demons who resisted this change in power. Who would not fight with a human as their general. Who would not back down from the freedom that they were finally allowed. They were the ones who were killed off first.
Samuel made rules, of course, to ensure the safety of the world and the people in it. That was one of his main priorities, to avoid any human casualties. Only humans that deserved hell, by his standards, and only bodies that have already dropped could be used as ‘meatsuits’ was one of the more unfavourable ones. This brought up another uprising, and yet another purge.
He wished to try and reason with the angels, to try and talk them into stopping this war before it began because, there was no need for it, but they had already passed their judgement on him. He had sided with the demons, so he, and anyone involved with him, must be killed. So, he informed his army of the damned that they could kill any angel that may be a threat to them, or his new order of salvation. This brought him respect from some of the demons that had doubted his judgment.
Samuel watched the battles arise, and saw the people that suffered because of it. He saw how the angels would obliterate an entire town, just for a few demons, and this made him furious. He screamed at the heavens and he challenged them to dare find something that he, or any demon for that matter, has done to humanity, that they have not done themselves. They merely responded with the fact that it was not his choice to make choices of what was right for humanity, and that he should back down and accept what was righteous.
He never did find anything righteous about the angels, heaven, or even God when he looked at the carnage that they were spreading while he was desperately trying to minimize it. He enforced new rules, saying that, until the war was won, no demon could reside within a human inhabited area, so as to decrease the risk of them being caught in the crossfire. His verdict was, unfortunately, pointless. Only a few short hours did he move all of the broken, beaten, and the damned from those who were not, did the angels completely destroy an entire city, full of people. It was estimated that the death toll reached over 10,000. They sent a message informing him that if he did not withdraw his army, and seal them all back in the pit, more people would be killed. He asked why they must continue to drag humans back into the equation when the battle was clearly between them; the only response he received was that it was Heaven’s will.
The war raged on for years, and Samuel became more and more determined to win, and became more and more inhuman with each town or city that heaven destroyed. His once brown eyes burned bright yellow as they gazed across the battle plans strewn all around him in the little sanctuary they had from the angels.
Finally, after the gruelling pain, the sweat, the blood and the tears, the angels finally lost. Heaven was defeated and Samuel was determined to restore the earth and humanity to someplace where they could feel like they were saved. Where, they didn’t need to fear whether or not they were going to hell as long as they were good enough to pass by Samuel’s standards. Only those who disobeyed were killed completely, and only those who truly deserved hell were sent there now.
The punishment is still the same, the carving, the acid, and the rack; everything that was there before the war that ruined anyone who walked in was still there now. The only difference was that, the pit was finally being used as it was intended, to punish souls that deserved it. To rip and tear at the imagined bodies like they had done to others while they were upstairs; to force them to live through every ounce of pain that they inflicted upon another. Only then, when they completed their atonement were they finally killed.
I now see the world being rebuilt, and Samuel, well to me its still Sammy, really does seem to look like the saviour of those who have been beaten down, broken and damned. I could have never guess that I would end up where I am today, but I don’t regret it. I guess that is why I stand here, beside my brother with the yellow eyes, proudly wearing my own blackened ones as we watch those who are just like us, finally saved from heaven.
