Title: Out of a Gunnysack Author: hebrew_hernia / Prince Recipient: amchara Rating: PG Author's Notes: 1093 words. Title & cut-text from "Red Rabbits" by The Shins. Summary: Sam finds a hunt at Stanford.
That was really interesting - who'd have guessed that Sam would find a fellow hunter at Stanford? And to discover that for others, it's possible to combine hunting with a normal life. Wonder if that felt like another gut punch to Sam?
I just love this. It was a great little story, and I was enjoying it and thinking, aww, how sweet for Sam to find another hunter at Stanford, and then I got to the last lines and took the whole thing to another level.
"Who says it has to be one or the other?"
"My dad." Sam closes the truck's door.
That's just so sad that Sam believes that. 'My way or the highway' - I can almost hear John saying that. Lovely work.
Oh. Oh wow and oh. The end was just oh. And amazing and what a great character sketch. That's just terrific and I love the writing style and how you ended it.

Sam loves the library closest to his dorm, all ancient oak shelves and tables, light filtering in through enormous windows like it's a church.
Good description.
John's kind of a pothead, Sam's learned, and he'll buy pretty much anything. He's a nice guy, and Sam hates how easily he lies.
Oh, Sam.
Sam's struggling to maintain his composure when Jake gets it. "Oh... Sam Winchester."
*g* I like that the Winchesters are that well known around hunting circles.

Ouch.
*hugs Sam*
