Calling All Artists!

Oct 27, 2014 02:06

(Check it out - I gave LJ money and they gave me my mod icon back! I think that's extortion...)

Speaking of extortion, I have a desperate plea. There is an amazing fic from a fabulous writer that has been waiting on art for a couple of years now because I'm a fandom flunky. I had the best of intentions of doing the art this year, but RL had other ideas so I need to pass the torch because fandom needs this story.

This is a big bang from the 2012 round and, like I said, this incredibly patient author has been waiting a long time for art so if there is an artist among you who would be willing to go above and beyond making pieces for this fic you would be the biggest hero ever. You'd get the full four weeks of time to complete the project and my undying gratitude.

The summary is below the cut and I am seriously not exaggerating about how delicious of a fic this is. It's loaded with hurt!Dean and caring Sam and utter perfection all around.

Fic: 'You've Done All the Things That Could Kill You Somehow'

Summary: After eventually finding a ritual that worked, Sam has sprung Dean from Purgatory but there are a couple of problems: one, Dean's re-appeared in an alleyway in London and two, he's so broken physically and mentally that he's been classed as a 'vulnerable adult' and has been placed under the guardianship of Social Services. When Sam arrives at the hospital he realises broken bones are the least of his worries...

“I’m sorry, Sam but wherever your brother has been for the last few months, it’s clear that life hasn’t been kind to him. He’s significantly underweight; his entire body is covered in injuries of varying age and severity.” The doctor’s professional demeanour slips as he shakes his head in disbelief. “He looks as if he’s been savaged by wild animals for want of a better description.”

Sam’s heart stutters in his chest. He finds his voice, but it’s ragged like his emotions.

“Has he said anything about what’s happened to him?”

Another shared glance between the medical personnel.

“I’m afraid your brother hasn’t spoken a word since he was admitted.”

Enough. Enough. “I need to see him.”

Fortunately he meets no resistance to his demand. They accompany him through the ward to a set of double doors marked ‘Isolation’. He looks at the ward sister, silently querying why Dean would be in there when there has been no mention of possible infectious diseases although fuck knows what he could have picked up in Purgatory if he’s been so badly injured.

“We wanted to put him somewhere quiet,” she explains. “He can’t tolerate loud noises and, wherever he’s been, he’s been unaccustomed to any light.”

There it is again: wherever he’s been. Sam has no answers for them because aside from a location that he’s pretty sure won’t show up on Google Maps, he can’t tell them anything about what Dean might have experienced for the months he’s been gone.

The story follows Sam's struggle to get his broken and traumatised brother to accept that he's no longer in Purgatory and to prevent him from being taken to a psychiatric facility. If you haven't already guessed, the story contains lots of damaged!Dean and brotherly bonding.
