karahalliwell Rating: PG-13
Warnings: some language, implied death and sex
Pairing: Bela/Ruby
Notes: I really hope you like it. I put a lot of thoughts into the songs I chose, but I know it's very hard to meet ones taste in music. The songs are in order of a certain storyline in my head. Which is probably in my head only - but I tried to explain it anyway. ;) Please enjoy!

I did right to walk
and just leave you there
'cause no one can stand your fear of fear
so wrong
and you still think your right
and I was too old
to pick that fight
yes it's human
it's just human
you noticed?
This is obviously a very Ruby song. Especially because it's called "human" and because it's about an emotion that's so very very human.
2. Pink: Save my Life
She's so ashamed of herself that she's come full circle
Nobody understands what it's like to
Be this girl
So she disappeared, and she
Wasn't clear, and she
Didn't say where she was going
This song - especially this part - made me think of Bela and the things we got to know about her and her past.
3. Fiona Apple: The way things are
I wouldn't know what to say to a gentle voice
It'd roll right past me
And if you chalk it up you'll see I don't really have a choice
So don't even ask me
I'm much better off, the way things are
Much much better off, better by far
So keep on calling me names, keep on, keep on
And I'll keep kicking the crap till it's gone
If you keep on killing, you could get me to settle
And as soon as I settle, I bet I'll be
Able to move on
I love this song because it's about people being prisoners of their roles and expectations. And obviously Ruby and Bela can't be friends and they can't fall in love, because they are who they are. And hate is always so much easier than love.
4. Metric: Help, I’m alive
If we're still alive
My regrets are few
If my life is mine
What shouldn't I do?
I get wherever I'm going
I get whatever I need
While my blood's still flowing
And my heart's still
Beating like a hammer
On the run from their very own feelings. But there's no escape.
5. Robbie Williams: Come Undone
So unimpressed, but so in awe
Such a saint, but such a whore
So self-aware, so full of shit
So indecisive, so adamant
I'm contemplating, thinkin' about thinkin'
It's overrated, just get another drink and
Watch me come undone
So well-trained, so animal
So need your love, so fuck you all
I'm not scared of dying, I just don't want to
If I stop lying, I'll just disappoint you
And this is why I had to warn you of language. ;P
No seriously, I love the dichotomy, I love the mellow anger and the quite self-loathing all rolled into one. That's why I had to include this song.
6. Thirteen Senses: Into the Fire
Come on, come on
Put your hands into the fire
Explain, explain
As I turn I meet the power
This time, this time
Turning white and senses dire
Pull up, pull up
From one extreme to another
A very emotional song with a hopeful, daring note. Put your hands into the fire. Dare to love me, if you can.
7. Vast: Flames
close your eyes
let me touch you now
let me give you something that is real
close the door
leave your fears behind
you are the only thing
that makes me want to live at all
when i am with you
there's no reason to pretend
A sad, emotional piece - and it made me imagine them having slow, desperate sex. Wich would be all kinds of hot.
8. Poison: Every Rose has it’s Thorns
We both lie silently still
in the dead of the night
Although we both lie close together
We feel miles apart inside
Was it something I said or something I did
Did my words not come out right
Though I tried not to hurt you
Though I tried
This is actually a song from the Supernatural-soundtrack and the song I always associate the most with Ruby and Bela. If there was ever a rose that had thorns it were Bela and Ruby.
Also the beginning of the end.
9. The Coral: Dreaming of You
When I'm down and my hands are tied
I cannot reach a pen for me to draw the line
From this pain I just can't disguise
Its gonna hurt but I'll have to say goodbye
I love the pure unadulterated longing, but at the same time the song feels so restless and driven. You just know it can't stay that way. They both have too many secrets, too many things to do, skeletons to bury and they just can't stay here in this soap bubble forever.
10. Annie Lennox: Why
I may be mad
I may be blind
I may be viciously unkind
But I can still read what you're thinking
And I've heard is said too many times
That you'd be better off
Besides...
Why can't you see this boat is sinking
This song feels kind of hopeless - why can't you see this boat is sinking?
Neither of them wants to let go. But they both know they're better off without each other.
11. Guano Apes: Quietly
quietly
we arrive
my insecurity is so soft to you
You can't let me breathe in
we are fallin' in too deep
I'm dying in your open mouth
so you can
leave them all
and you can't
go on with your lies
it's a fact we can't deny
if you have to go
please go quiet, please go quietly
If you have to go - please go quietly.
I can totally imagine it. Bela laying in a bed, back to the door, pretending to sleep and Ruby sneaking silently out of the room.
Both know they can't go on like that. It's too good to be true. And once she leaves, there's no going back.
12. Remy Zero: Prophecy
Look into the sun and see your soul is dying
Used to feel the faith, but now you're tired of trying
Should have left alone what you have stolen from everyone
Mmm...How you feeling?
Seems a little sick to me now
If all you're seeing is your lies
You had your chance, but now you've blown it.
You want this world so you can own them
Ruby on her own after she left.
All her great plans are worthless now. She wanted the power, but she lost Bela in the process, so there's nothing left.
13. Reamonn: Supergirl
Then she'd say
that nothing can go wrong
When you're in love
what can go wrong
And then she'd laugh
the night time into the day
Pushing her fears, further along
Bela near the end. Lying to herself and pretending she's fine and everything is going to be all right. When you're in love ... what can go wrong. But of course we all know how this ends ...
And a bonus track. Because I firmly believe you just CAN'T make a desperate love-mix without including this song. It's probably the most desperate love song of all time.
Bonus Track. Robbie Williams: Love Somebody
Got a lifetime in a second
oh the damage done
Trying to love somebody
Just wanna love somebody right now
Guess there's just no pleasing me
I want to love somebody
Just want to love somebody right now
