Mary had been in labor much longer than she'd been with Dean. She was getting tired. Even John looked weary from standing at her bedside. He'd called to check on Dean twice. Their elderly neighbor had been kind enough to offer to watch him. Dean was a handful at four. He didn't want babysitting to give the nice lady a heart attack.

"Maybe he should be at Julie's," Mary said, panting. "I know she'd just take the day off and come to our house."

"No, no. Dean's fine."

"You should call Julie."

"Let's just concentrate on this child of ours. The other is taken care of."

"You think I can forget I'm in labor? Huh?" Mary's frustration was coming out and even though John knew if was from her exhaustion, he still flinched on the inside.

The nurse came in to take Mary's vitals. "That's a beautiful sunrise," she motioned to the window. "It's also your last one of being pregnant. Did you two still have things left to do before your baby's arrival?"

"We have another child," John replied. "We're already used to family life."

"I wanted to wear my bikini, John. Remember? I told you I'd always fit into it. Swore that I'd get my figure back after having Dean," Mary was getting herself worked up. "I didn't mean to lie to you, John. I meant to look pretty for you."

"You're beautiful, Mary. You got your figure back, trust me. I never really liked that 'ol bikini anyway. I just loved the woman wearing it and you're still her, honey," his deep voice rolled over her and Mary started to cry.

John looked at the nurse for help and she just shrugged.

"You're just tired, sweetheart. Once you have the baby, you'll be able to sleep."

Mary sniffled a little, "When I get home, you're sleeping on the couch. All I have to do is sleep on the same sheets as you and I get pregnant. I'm not doing this again."

John looked at her, totally confused.

"Joking," Mary tired to laugh. "Trying to lighten the mood."

John laughed at his girl. Here she was, trying to make it better for him.

"That's alright, honey. We're fine. You just try to get some rest between contractions, okay? I'll just keep holding your hand."

Mary smiled up at him and he kissed her forehead.

"Not good enough," Mary told him. "Kiss me like I'm sexy."

So he did, and the nurse blushed when she saw.
