Can't see the wood for the trees
Holbrook, Arizona, a beat from Route 66. Tourists missing, local police baffled.
Sam did the research, Dean did the driving.
‘Dude, you must have got the wrong place. There’s not a fucking forest for miles.’
Sam sighed. ‘It’s a petrified forest, Dean.’
‘Petrified?’ A pause. ‘As in scary?’
‘That would be petrifying.’
‘And this is -’
‘Petrified. As in trees that have turned to stone over millions of years.’ Sam trailed his fingers over a nearby log, sight conflicting with touch; chill bark, hard angles, morning sun glinting fire, burnt orange, ochre.
‘Huh.’
Sam waited.
‘That’s some freaky shit, dude.’
