spn_bigpretzel Halloween Reverse Mini Bang!
It has been a couple of years, but we have done this challenge before. And come on, this is Big Pretzel after all. We HAVE to do something for Halloween.
You can participate as an artist, an author or BOTH. There is no official sign-up for this bang. If you want to participate as an artist, just make sure you post your art by September 30th (see timeframes below). Claiming of the art will be open to all.
Artists: You don’t have to create a big bang’s worth of art. Think one piece (drawing or manip) that can serve as the inspiration for an author to write a story. Yes, you can enter multiple pieces if you’d like and have time for it, but keep in mind that we have a limited time frame. Don’t go crazy.
Later, once claiming occurs, you can work with the author to create additional pieces tailored to their story, but that is optional and between you and the author.
Writers: Due to the short notice, there is no pre-registration for this and the minimum is just 1,000 words. The sky is the limit though. Try not to bite off more than you can chew. You’ll only have a month to write.
What are the Time Frames?
Art is due Friday, September 30th We will have a master post for that. Keep your eyes open for details.
Claiming of art by authors will begin Monday, October 3rd
Posting will run from Friday October 28th- Halloween - Monday, October 31st.
Authors will NOT be asked to turn in a rough draft before posting time, but there will be some check-ins to help keep you on track, gauge progress, and cheerlead.
What can we write/draw/manip about?
Think Halloween! Weechesters trick-or-treating and/or maybe getting up to some mischief. Dean getting sick from eating too much candy. Stanford-era Sam decides to finally do the drunken college boy thing - at a haunted Halloween frat party. What does Charlie do for fun on Halloween?And how does she drag the boys along? What kinds of things do Sheriffs Donna and Jody have to deal with on this holiday?And wonder what Cas would think of the strange ritual that is Halloween? Or the Trickster - I'm sure he would SO LOVE all the sweets and pranks!
Those are only examples. The possibilities are ENDLESS. The main thing is to have fun and celebrate the lighter side of Supernatural.
Gen, Het, Slash - All are welcome. Just make sure any art that is NSFW is placed under a cut.
What can’t we do?
We’re not looking for hardcore terrifying horror or desperate tear-your-heart-out angst here. It’s a show about hunting monsters and the theme is Halloween, so yeah there may be some scary. It’s also a show with a lot of drama, so again yeah there may very well be a bit of angst. BUT the emphasis needs to be on the funny, sweet, schmoopy, or cracky. The goal is to leave your audience with a good feeling. Think a good giggle or an aww.
RPF is a no-go. The focus should be on the characters of SPN not the actors who play them. The one exception is the Season 6 ep: The French Mistake. Something that takes place in that context is fine. As in: Sam and Dean are stuck in fake!Canada again and they have to pretend to be Jensen and Jared, who just happen to be shooting a ‘very special’ Halloween episode - atrocious acting ensues. That kinda thing. Nothing, however, that draws on the actors’ personal lives outside of the fictionalized world shown in The French Mistake.
You guys are awesome and you do an awesome job keeping things fun and playing by the rules around here, but if you’re new to the comm or just unsure about something being appropriate - feel free to ask. The monsters may bite, but the mods do not.
