The noise spoke for itself.
“What do you think it is?” Annie asked with a frown. There were a lot of terrible possibilities.
“Let’s check on Jody.”
They slunk out of their room and downstairs. The light was on in the kitchen.
THWACK! THWACK! THWACK!
They peeked in to see Jody armed with a rolling pin.
“Hey, girls! I was just crushing some candy canes to make peppermint bark. Want to lend a hand?”
