SUMMARY: What if it wasn't the same Ruby that came back after Dean went to Hell? What might have happened to that Ruby?
WARNING: Language -- this is Ruby, and she is a demon, after all. But nothing you wouldn't hear on the show.
She couldn't help the smile as the creature - she refused to call it a demon, that's what she was and she wouldn't give it that dignity - lit up and died at her blade.
Re-forging it had been the work of months - part of the rack she found herself on, carving the runes carefully, doing the spellwork - and it hadn't been easy while she was on the run. Escaping the rack had been ridiculously easy this time. While her torturer had been efficient, he was no Alistair or Meg or Dean Winchester.
The plan had gone all cock-eyed. She was supposed to gain their trust, then mould Sam once Dean was gone. But along the way, act had become reality. Sometime around the prison fiasco, she realised she really had just wanted to help them. She knew she could be an asset once Dean was gone, keep Sam safe and sane.
Keep him human, and once the seal broke work with them to protect the others till it regenerated.
But that damn Lilith had caught her intentions and thrown her down to the racks. She'd heard terrible, terrible things while she was there. She'd heard of the Apocalypse stopped (Go, boys!), Leviathans walking the Earth, the Mark of Cain's transfer (Dean, what the hell?) and now the Darkness was rumoured to be unleashed.
She would find the doorway to Purgatory and then to Earth. She would find the boys and resume the role she'd carved out for herself. She was going to be their helper, as she now craved more than her next breath.
And if that skank who took her place and her name was still walking the soil, she would make damn sure this knife sank deep in her belly.
Hang on, Winchesters. Ruby's coming.
