It wasn't because he was trying to be edgy or cool or anything.
It didn't have anything to do with hunting. Black got kind of a bum rap there, in Dean's opinion. Evil was just as likely to use bright, happy colors, if it suited their purposes.
It wasn't for any practical reason, though it did go with everything and hid weird and varied stains from the job nicely.
Dean liked black because it reminded him of his Baby, his home on wheels, and all the really important things in his life associated with her.
