Sam Is Perhaps Less Productive Than His Brother

Sam scrapped all his elaborate plans for hooking up some sort of greenhouse and decided that all garden furniture needed was a place to go. He rearranged some of the things displayed in a room with a skylight and let Dean move in the garden set. Then Dean went into his workroom and didn't come out for days.

When Sam finally gave up on coaxing his brother out, the sound of arrhythmic music playing lured him in. Dean had one of his records playing on a newly crafted table. Sam was grasping at straws when he said, "Hi-fi?"

"Gramophone table."

Sam Buys A Book

A gramophone table? Who the hell had written that book? Firing up his laptop, Sam soon had his answer and a list of stores that stocked the book. Where had Dean gotten his copy, anyway? Sam thought Dean had found it in the bunker, but the book's first edition was printed in 1972.

Sam bought the book. After flicking to the page after "gramophone table" he bought supplies, too.

Dean stared at his brother's creation. "What is that?"

"The next thing on your list."

"Dude, I made a hammock."

Sam had made a hassock.

Maybe he'd bought the wrong book.

Aspirational Furniture

"My book's better," Sam declared. Dean was making a high chair to match his changing table. The next thing in Sam's book was an Indonesian screen. Far more practical and exotic.

Dean snorted. "Yeah right."

"What's the next thing in your book?" asked Sam.

"Hope chest."

Sam stared. "You do know what those are for, right?"

"I like carving things."

"Whatever," said Sam. "I'm going to make something and it's going to be better than yours."

"Like your hammock?" Dean refused to call it a hassock, and maybe it was a little lop-sided, but it... fit perfectly beneath Sam's bed.

Duelling Loveseats

Over the next few weeks, between hunts, Sam meticulously worked on his next piece of furniture. He bought all the best materials, looked up YouTube tutorials when his book was lacking, and generally made sure that his little sofa was the finest quality.

Meanwhile Dean built an ironing board, Jack and Jill chairs-- which went into the makeshift solarium-- and a kitchen island.

Then he unveiled his loveseat. Sam positioned his opposite Dean's. The brothers admired their handiwork.

Dean's was dark where Sam's was pale. Dean's was leather upholstered, while Sam had chosen plaid.

"Mine's better," they said in unison.

What's That? A Hat Rack?

After a long hunt, Sam blindly hung up his jacket before flicking on the lights. Dean was right behind him, hanging up his own.

Sam blinked. "Hey Dean?"

Dean just grunted, too tired to respond.

"Has that hat rack always been there?"

Dean looked up with mirth in his eyes. "I'll give you a hint. It's actually a coat rack."

A coat rack. The last thing Dean had built was a mirrored coffee table, which he kept in his bedroom.

How many more things had Dean built that Sam hadn't noticed? When did Dean find the time to make them?
