Author's Note: This wasn't supposed to be a series, but after you write more than one, it kind of is. The first drabble is here: D.I.Y. Furniture A-Z. You don't have to read it first, but if you're one of those people who likes to read about Dean building things, you'd be missing out by not reading it. (If you're not one of those people, I don't think you'll want to read these drabbles.)

Dean's Bookshelf

Sam didn't comment when Dean finished the set of bookshelves, he just started shelving the books they'd collected over the years which had no place in the library. Sure, Dean had intended for the shelves to be used that way, but it was Dean's bookshelf. Dean was the one who'd built it with his own two hands. The one who'd mixed the perfect stain when he couldn't find the right lumber. Dean had the splinters to prove it. Sam didn't. Sam didn't deserve any shelf space.

Dean filled the rest of the shelves with Vonnegut, vintage porn and Victorian romances.

Drawers Are Difficult

Drawers were more difficult to put together than Dean had anticipated. In all his years of jimmying open stuck motel drawers, it hadn't occurred to him how precisely drawer slides and wheels had to be positioned to get the drawers to perform their function. After positioning them slightly crooked, Dean spent a long time sanding down the bottoms of the drawers to get everything to fit.

The drawer pulls were uneven. Dean insisted that that was a design element. Sam wisely chose to shut his mouth. He did, however, question why Dean had made a buffet in the first place.

In Which Sam Is Perplexed By Dean's Latest Creation
Sam eyed the table, wondering what it was. Dean had finished working on it yesterday, but unlike his other creations, he hadn't immediately begged Sam for his approval. Instead he'd pushed it into an unused bedroom and moved on to the next thing.

The table was pretty tall. Underneath were a couple of drawers and a couple of shelves. Actually, Sam would have thought it was a dresser or bureau, but Dean had called it a table.

When a padded mat appeared atop the table the next day, Sam figured it out.

But why would Dean build a changing table?

Sam Finally Figures It Out

"Did you knock up some poor woman while I wasn't looking?" Sam asked as he entered Dean's workroom. "Is that why you're nesting? Is making furniture some sort of primal instinct I've never experienced because I'm not a father?"

Dean looked up from his measuring, marking his place with a pencil which he then stuck in his toolbelt. "And I guess man never walked on the moon. What are you on about?"

Sam looked around the room. "What are you building?"

"A desk." And before that, a changing table. And before that, a buffet and a bookcase. Oh.

"You're insane."

Sam Worries About Dean

Dean went out to buy sheet glass while Sam tried to figure out exactly what sort of O.C.D. his brother had managed to develop.

When Sam heard Dean break a pane of glass, Sam figured he'd be better off worrying about his brother's physical health than his mental.

When Sam saw Dean wielding a blade in one hand and a bloody handkerchief in the other, he went back to worrying about Dean's mental state.

When Dean set up the new display cabinet in Sam's room, Sam decided it was time to stop worrying about his brother and start displaying things.
