Presenting: The "I Lost My Shoe" Fundraiser
spn_bigpretzel presents the “I Lost My Shoe” Fundraiser for Soles4Souls.
Soles4Souls is a charity that collects shoes from the warehouses of footwear companies and the closets of people like you. The charity distributes these shoes to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, the same year that Supernatural started airing, Soles4Souls has delivered over 17 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. The shoes have been distributed to people in over 127 countries, including Kenya, Thailand, Nepal and the United States.
In the season 3 episode “Bad Day at Black Rock”, the Winchester brothers are tracking down a cursed rabbit’s foot. Sam had and then lost the rabbit’s foot, which has given him bad luck and he faces certain doom unless Dean can find it. Near the end, Sam loses his shoe down the sewer and utters the infamous line “I lost my shoe.” The episode, and the moment, captures those things that spn_bigpretzel loves about Supernatural.
But fans of the show know that the Winchester family business is saving people; hunting things. Both Sam and Dean would give away their shoes to those who need them more than they do. And as fans of the show, we hope to raise money for those who need shoes as well. So please, join those of us from spn_bigpretzel and give what you can to those who not only lost their shoes, but maybe never had a pair in their life before now.
So what can you do?
1) We have set a goal to raise $250 in our online fundraiser. You can go to the spn_bigpretzel page at the Soles4Souls fundraising site here and give if you are interested in donating. For every $1 you donate to Soles4Souls, they can provide one additional pair of shoes to someone in need. $20 provides 20 pairs of shoes.. However, we know that Supernatural fans can surprise even themselves in their fervor to good things for the love of their show. So if we exceed that goal, we will celebrate as all good Supernatural fans do-with pie! Our online fundraiser will run through May 2, 2012 (Sam's birthday).
2) We realize that not everyone has funds to give. Soles4Souls also is set up to take shoe donations. In the U.S., there are retailers that will accept "gently worn" shoes and give them to Soles4Soles who process them and give them to those in need. If you have shoes that you don't use and can give them away, got to the Soles4Souls website to look for a retailer near you where you can donate your shoes.
3) Feeling more ambitious? Soles4Souls helps organizations with larger shoe drives. If this is something that you would be interested in, then please PM me no later than Wednesday, March 7, 2012, Midnight CST. If there are individuals interested, we will coordinated shoe drives at various locations, and them ship them to Soles4Souls for processing.
