Why are people so dumb?

Mum and dad are watching this freaking stupid tv show that they watch on Sundays that has all the political crap etc on it. I don't know why they bother watching. I don't know why the network bothers airing the show. It's a load of bull. They basically sit there and discuss all the dumb shit that the politicians have done as well as the less dumb shit which they make out to be even more screwy than it actually is, and then act shocked and scandalised that politicians make mistakes.

You all know that I'm rather anti-government, anti-conformity, and generally anti-stuff, but this is show is just ridiculous. There's a difference between exercising skepticism so as not to be taken in by lame fads and public hysteria, and just complaining about everything that the government does because you can.

In particular, today they are complaining about the budget deficit. Yes, we are going into deficit. We are all aware of this. Why must we listen to the constant whining in the media about the deficit? It's kind of a moot point given that the people who are whinging the loudest are the ones who are offering the least alternatives to what the treasury has set out in the budget, and they're also the ones we didn't hear from prior to the budget being released, when it would have actually mattered. The fact is that nearly the entire world is in recession - it is a GLOBAL recession - and we're actually doing pretty damn well compared to other countries. Why are we upset about that? It's not like we were ever going to escape it having any effect on our economy.

I could rant for much longer, but basically it boils down to this: We are not in a national shit-flinging contest. Why are people behaving like they are?

said the llama, we're related don't give me that look
