“Penny ? What are you doing down here? It’s not Laundry night, in fact, it’s Halo Night and… you’re not at the apartment.” His voice rises at the end, both a question and a statement.
She’s sitting on one of the laundry machines, her heels banging against it to the rhythm of her heartbeats.
“I know sweetie, but sometimes I just like to come down here and sit, it’s nice and quiet… smells nice too.”
“Please come up and join us for Halo night Penny, Wolowitz is losing badly.” She knows him so well it only takes a split second for her to translate and realize that he means he‘s missing her, and something in her stomach does a strange triple back flip.
“C’mere you” She motions with her right hand and he steps gingerly into the room, as if afraid the simple act of being in here on the wrong night might shatter all of the well-structured routines that he’s built around his life.
She tilts her head to the side and when he stumbles close enough she pushes herself off the machine and into his arms, limbs clashing with his as he makes a squeak of surprise. Relishing the fact that this is who they are now and that she can actually do this, she wraps her arms firmly around his neck and settles more comfortably against him as he launches into a long-winded rant about how that was very dangerous Penny, and she could have broken any number of bones, launching herself at him like that and he did not enjoy the prospect of making a trip to the hospital at this time of night and, “Penny you had no way of knowing that I would catch you.”
He is chastising her but his thumbs are making slow circles over her thighs and he hitches her even closer. She giggles as he rambles on and notes how very blue his eyes are when he’s worried.
“But you did catch me” she mumbles into his neck as she haphazardly places kisses along his collarbone.
“Penny,” his voice is low and her name comes out sounding as though someone has dipped it in Texas. He coughs, “Penny, of course I caught you; when one understands the laws of Physics, anything is possible.” And then he kisses her, soft and full of love and so very, very Sheldon.
She pulls back slightly, only enough to look into his eyes, “Anything?”
He narrows his eyes and kisses her on a spot just beside her mouth, “Anything.”
