Title: With glowing hearts
Word count: 482
Characters/pairings: Barney/Robin
Disclaimer: I don't own HIMYM, Barney or Robin or even the Vancouver olympics and the Molson Canadian Hockey House (would be nice tough).
A/N: This was written for the Drabble-a-Thon challenge over at barneyrobin . The prompt was 'The gang watches the Winter Olympics together'... this is mostly just 'Robin and Barney watch the Winter Olympics together' tough. I saw this prompt and just had to do it because I'm Canadian (Vancouver FTW!) and some of the things that Robin is wearing in this fic... umm I may have donned for the gold medal game... maybe.
Anyways... enjoy!! Comments are always lovely too!

They don’t watch the America vs. Canada men’s game together. Robin actually flies back to Vancouver to watch it because, as she points out “No one is this country understands hockey”. She doesn’t watch it in the actual rink, but outside in the frighteningly named “Molson Canadian Hockey House”.

It makes Barney shiver to think of it.

They’re all smart and no one mentions anything when she gets back with a black eye and the remains of a maple leaf tattoo on her left cheek.

She forces them all to watch the women’s gold medal game together though and it confuses them at first until Lily hears Robin boasting about the sure win that they’re going to achieve. She’s positive they’ll win and she can’t wait to rub it in their faces.

Barney almost faints when he sees her before the game starts; she’s wearing a Canadian hockey jersey with what looks like white jeans with a pattern of maple leaves on them (and they wonder why we make fun of them, he thinks), she’s got her hair dyed a startling red and white which he hopes isn’t permanent and her face is covered in multiples tattoos and… good lord there’s one that says ‘Made in Canada eh!’.
And most terrifyingly of all, she’s wielding a hockey stick that’s going to start looking pretty dangerous if the U.S. scores.

He would find it frightening if he wasn’t so turned on.

When Canada scores the first time she throws her beer across the room while simultaneously doing a strange sort of dance on the couch.

When they score again Barney thinks she’s fainted, but when he bends over to check, her eyes pop open and she yells gibberish in his face. He pulls back quickly with a repulsed look on his face but when she starts dancing again his mouth tugs up into a smile.

When the crowd starts counting down the seconds she’s right there with them and somehow she’s got his hand gripped tightly in hers and her red and white nails are digging into his skin.

When they win she screams so loud he has to cover his ears, and then she starts to dance again, but she’s still holding his hand and he’s pulled up to stand on the couch with her. Her screams ring in his ears and then she turns to him and he kisses her.
He revels in the quiet.
Then he realises what he’s done and his stomach tightens and his hands start to tingle.
Then she’s kissing him back and he’s never been so happy that she’s Canadian.

When they sing the national anthem she sings along so loud he’s certain that the people in McLaren’s can hear her. He doesn’t make fun of any of the lyrics though because she’s still holding his hand.

And because that hockey stick still looks pretty dangerous.
