36. icon progression meme 2011

Jan 01, 2012 15:27

Well I've seen this so many times now I thought I'd give it a go. I'd made some icons in 2010 but not very many, so it was actually only really this year that I started properly. I thought it would be quite interesting to compare where I was this time last year to where I am now, and I'm hoping you'll agree there's a bit of a difference! =D

Saturation levels, where have you been all my life?!?!
LOL at this. I love playing around with saturation!

O.o WOW, you made huge progress in a year, well done! Also I always meant to ask: how do you do this colour splash thing? I'd like to try it, but I couldn't find it anywhere in Gimp...

Well it's true!! And it made life SOOOO much easier! =D

And thank you! I'm rather proud of how far I've come in a year, so it's lovely to hear you agree.

There isn't a single option for colour-splash in Gimp. What you have to do is make sure everything is in a single layer, then duplicate it. Then you desaturise the top layer, and then use the eraser to let the colour come through (you rub out the bits of the top layer where you want to be able to see the colour on the bottom layer).

Oh, thanks for the tips! I'm definitely trying it; I've got lots of Sherlock caps I just made to icon! (And the Downton Christmas special once I've capped it too) =P

You're welcome, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with! (Especially the Downton Christmas stuff!! =D)

Speaking of which, I was wondering if you wanted to do a mutual icon challenge? Say, I give you a cap to icon, you give me one, and we continue like that for a bit?

Also, did you get a chance to read my ff.net PM?
