FantasyCon 2012

This evening I’m on a flight to England, followed by a train to Brighton for the annual conference of the British Fantasy Society, FantasyCon 2012. I had a great time at the event last year and I’m very much looking forward to catching up with friends and talking shop. Plus, I love Brighton!

Here’s my schedule for the weekend:

• On Friday, the first day of the con, from 3pm - 4pm in the Fitzherbert Room, I’ll be moderating a panel on Does Gender Matter? My fellow panelists are: Ramsay Campbell, Joseph D’Lacey, Alison Littlewood, and Suzanne McLeod.
• From 5 pm - 6pm on Saturday in the Fizherbert Room I’ll be participating on a panel about The Dangerous Fairy Folk with Nina Allan, Mike Carey, Simon R. Green, and Graham Joyce.
• On Sunday, from 1pm - 4pm, I’ll be at the BFS Banquet and Awards Ceremony. I’ll be co-presenting the Best Comic/Graphic Novel Award with the talented Rob Sherman.

It’s been an honour to serve on the BFS Awards jury this year, and my thanks to my fellow jurors James Barclay, Hal Duncan, Esther Sherman, and Damien G. Walter for their hard work and wisdom.

As well as these events are two notable extras I should mention:

• As part of the Film Programme on Friday (at approximately 10pm in the Fitzherbert Room), there will be a showing of the trailer for The Hallowe’en Sessions (of which I’m one of the writers).
• At 10.10pm on Saturday in the Regency Lounge, as part of FantasyCon’s Evening Emporium of Entertainment, there will be a showing of a section from The Hallowe’en Sessions, written by Stephen Volk (Ghostwatch, The Awakening), and acted by Billy Clarke (The Devil’s Business, Hunger).

There’s so much going on at FantasyCon this year (readings, art show, signings, workshops, panels, films, theatre) that I’m going to be hard-pressed to decide that to attend. Plus there’s always the delightful problem of trying to spend time with as many people as possible.

I’m often very grateful for the up-sides of my career.
