Is a nice uncomplicated crush too much to ask for?
I seem to have a really bad habit of falling for people at inopportune times (or falling for inopportune people... ahem, straight girls). Seriously... Rafa is perfect, but lives in a peripheral city in Brazil; I fell for Garth a week before I left for three months; I fell for Shirley 12 hours before my bus out of Peru; Max was the only one that kind of worked out in both time and location (and that was two years ago); got involved with Parker two weeks before Guatemala; Marie kind of worked out, minus the three and a half weeks in Thailand and grandma dying; Rob lived in Port Townsend... and then we get into pre-out middle school relationships.
That said, I'm having a lot of fun and learning more Portuguese every hour. I went to a great punk show last night with Bruna and Rafa and Wagner and interviewed punk feministas in a smoked-out green room. Then we walked for an hour listening to The Gossip, Le Tigre, and Sleater-Kinney, singing along, translating, and trying to convince Bruna that she would have better taste in music if she was a dyke.
