Have you guys considered changing it so it's up to the person that makes the original post? I've found that I don't mind checking the tags of people who forget to do so on my IC posts, while checking my tags post after post after post gets really boring. And I end up forgetting to do it anyway.
I would have done that, but since the main reason we use tags is for the activity check, I felt that it is fairer/falls onto the player themselves to tag their own posts. Say your two threads that would help you pass the activity check happen in a post created by a player who forgets to tag their posts; if you miss the activity check, you're out of luck not because you forgot to tag, but because someone else did. It would then be the other person's fault that you didn't pass the activity check, which would be confusing and troublesome if we're trying to figure out who to talk to when it comes to the responsibility of keeping track of character threads.
Confusion like that is easily solved just by having each player keep track of their own tags instead of depending on someone else to do it.
