voice/action ♫ something always brings me back to you

[The woman's voice is clear and firm. It sounds more like a military report than a distress call.]

Pardon the interruption, if I can be heard at all... This is Locrian Sergeant Tear Grants speaking. Information on the dangers present would be much appreciated, as well as an inn or somewhere I can stay.

[She pauses. The anxiety of the situation is ( Read more... )

[Sitting in the kitchen, thinking about wishing himself up a meal - food still worked for him, despite many saying it didn't... Worrying a lot a little about Asch...]

[Wait... that voice... over the seal.

Kid had disappeared for a while. Had the same thing just happened here...? He didn't know but...]

[He's halfway out of his seat, grabbing his seal. He had been so worried that day she'd just disappeared. Maybe Peony had been right, maybe he'd been overreacting, but... He didn't care. He cared about her. He liked her, and when she'd just... left like that...]

Tear! Tear, you're back!

[The only question now, was, did she remember?]

[Tear hasn't moved from her spot in the street since Luke and Asch were first mentioned to her. Unable to find the voice to cry out, to look for him herself, she's been standing there and trying to wrap her head around it. But there he is. There's no mistaking the way he says her name.

Her fingers begin to tremble. She can't say anything. It's too terrible. It's some kind of sick, cruel joke...]

[There are footsteps around her, but the locals ignore her presence, and for that, she is grateful. It's shameful to simply break down in the middle of the street-- in front of the City Hall, no less-- but she feels everything in her body turning in on itself, and still she can only stare at the seal.

Everything she's ever wished for. The melody of the music box plays softly in the back of her mind. Her breath hitches painfully.]

[She swallows a shaky breath that threatens to turn into a sob. Her eyes lift from the seal, searching the crowd, as if Luke would magically appear and, with his sunny presence, banish every dark thought she's ever had.

She believes in his promise. She believes in the promise she made to herself, to take care of the beautiful world Luke helped save.

She just can't believe this.]

[Her voice soft, tentative, and thick with conflicted emotions, she whispers into the air.]

L-- Luke...?

[Her dreams have never been so cruel.]

[He still can't tell if she remembers or not... but... He wracks his brain, trying to remember what it had been like the first time she'd arrived... The memories aren't very clear - except that it'd been dark and they'd tripped and fallen on top of each other and all the awkwardness associated with it.

Still... something in her voice makes him pause.]

Y-yeah? It's me... [beat] A-are you okay? Where are you?

[He's so concerned, and yet he-- he has no idea. How can he just act like--] I'm fine. [Soldier face: on. Or trying. She needs to see him to be sure. No, more than see him-- she sees him in everything.

Tear needs to hear him, too, and feel the warmth of his hand. Only then can she be sure of anything.]

I think this is some kind of city hall. It's the nearest landmark that I can see.

[Some kind of-

...oh. That was... that was the Golden Entranceway. And if she didn't remember it was called that, then... she didn't remember did she? It wasn't like Kid. She'd left after all, and she'd come back, but she didn't remember anything...

It... it was okay. It wasn't like... like anything major had happened or anything. Except the fighting with Alexander and him using his hyperresonance and her helping him and Guy after that... It was just... little quiet day-to-day things... having meals together and going places... things... things they hadn't really had time to do at Auldrant. Nothing major...

... it still hurt though.]

[But... she was back now. That was the important thing, right? And... and he didn't want her to worry or anything. He tries to control his voice, though there might be a slight tremor.]

I-I know where that is. I'll be right there.

I'll be here.

['-waiting. Always.'

She shivers to herself despite being in direct sunlight. Still feeling lost and full of trepidation, she circles around until she finds a place to wait beside the stairs. The warmth on the back of her shoulders reminds her of how her brother used to hold her and rock her to sleep, singing of hope. She holds the seal to her chest and closes her eyes, the golden entranceway looming before her.]

[Her voice is shaky, perhaps a little breathy from trying not to cry, but the pitch is perfect and pure.]

[How many times had she visited the valley by herself and sang into the ether as if that would make him appear from her dreams? But she has to believe this time. She has faith. She could never, ever doubt him.]

[Her voice floats above the crowd, and still Tear doesn't turn around. If Luke isn't really coming, she doesn't want to know.]

[Once he gets close enough to hear her voice, he slows to a halt, listening... He knew that voice... It'd... it'd felt like a while, since he'd heard her sing like that... Sure, she'd offered, that one night he'd had nightmares, but... they'd gotten to talking, and...

Shaking his head, he continued onward, quietly, not... really wanting to interrupt. He really liked her singing... Especially the Fonic Hymns. There was a faint jolt of surprise, hearing her go through the first six... then on. The Seventh... she'd learned it? It... it was pretty...

There... she was standing with her back to him, facing the Golden Entranceway... He waited behind her, waited until she'd finished singing the last fonic hymn, then held his hand up, hesitating for a second to do anything more. There was... there was something going on here. Something he didn't quite understand yet, but... in the end, he reached out and put a hand on her shoulder]
