Sometimes... it just ain't right. Like you ain't the right people for each other, or marriage ain't right for you, even if you love each other. An' sometimes the love goes, or somethin' changes-- everythin' changes, you know? 'Specially people. An' they can get stupid, hurt each other, make mistakes, things they can't fix.
But some of 'em get stuck, 'cause they're married, an' they stay even though it hurts, or it hurts 'cause they stay. Or they split up, 'cause of mistakes, or one of 'em ain't happy anymore, an' that hurts, too.
[He pauses, thinks that does all sound way too sad, and really maybe he shouldn't be rambling on so much. He doesn't normally talk this much, normally keeps all his thoughts to himself, but Sissel had asked, and he was just trying to answer as best he could.]
But it can be happy. There's people around, they been married for like fifty years, more than that, an' they're still happy, still love each other.
