Speaking of baking and birthdays, I just helped Kairi make herself a birthday cake a few weeks ago, and...

Huh. I don't know if my birthday's passed while I've been here. Maybe? [She's... actually never thought about it until now.]

Ah, that's nice. I suppose this place is hospitable to those that spend their time here making friends.

[ maybe she just didn't keep track of the date? it seemed unbelievably careless. ]

When's your birthday? Do the days run together that easily here?

Mmmhm! Whenever that day comes that I get back home, it'd be nice to have memories of Splendor that I like looking back on, and making friends is one way to do that.

[A pause.]

It's not that... I just don't know when mine is in the first place.

How is it that you don't know something like that?

[ ah, well, it doesn't really matter though. ]

You could always make one up, couldn't you?

I didn't know remembering the day I was born was important at the time, so I never took note of it.

[There's nothing weird about that sentence at all.]

....Does it really work that way?

Do people you know have birthdays? It's surprising that there was no one to remember for you, to say the least. Ah- yeah, it could easily work that way if you don't have one. At least it would be a way to keep track of your age more clearly and most humans don't seem to mind an excuse for celebration.

Of course! Just because I don't know my own doesn't mean everyone else doesn't have one either. And, oh, um... [It's not surprising to her at all actually. There's a short, but definite uncomfortable silence as she quickly moves on to the next topic.]

I suppose.... [She sounds as if she's thinking about it, then laughs at that last comment.] That's true. It's always fun to have a reason to get together and hang out with people. What about you?

[ he can sense her discomfort on the topic and doesn't press it (mind you, it's not out of any concern for such a thing, rather her lack of a stable upbringing doesn't interest him for the time being). after all, who's to say what's common in a world other than his own? ]

Me? How do I put it ... I'm not the kind of person who makes close friends easily, so something like a birthday celebration would only be burdensome.

[She hates being lonely, and friends are friends, so his answer kind of perplexes her.]

Does that mean you're not celebrating yours?

[ not everyone is pleasant enough to have people who want to be around them, actually. ]

Yeah, I guess so. It does start to lose its entertainment value after a certain age, anyway.
