[today on the seal appears a young man apparently lounging on a park bench in the metropolis district, ears perked up curiously. he holds the seal at arm's length, as if to get a better view of it, but draws it closer after a moment.]Ah -- it seems it's on now, isn't it? It'd be convenient if all things worked just by wishing for them, just like ( Read more... )

Question. What's your motive behind borrowing others' homes? Particularly if you already have your own?

[oh noooo]

Oh, I do suppose that looks suspicious, doesn't it . . .

Does it? I'm just curious. It's a strange question to ask.

Not if you think about it, I'd think.

You like to have multiple homes to go back to? Any way you look at it, it's still strange. Not that it's a bad thing.

[grins.]

Well, I'll put it like this. Would you grant that a dog tends to return to its home?

Sure, I guess so. Are you comparing yourself to a dog, then?

[one of his ears flicks.]

Not at all. I was going to suggest that a cat doesn't.

And here I thought cats were typically the more intelligent of the two. Maybe it's presumptuous to assume memory is a facet of intelligence, though.

[ and as it just occurs to him-- ]

You should be able to remember by your key, shouldn't you?

In the end, a cat is just a cat, you know.

And should I?

But are you just a cat?

[ and as for the key ]

. . . It has your room number on it, if I'm not mistaken.

I thought that much was clear.

[he turns the card over with his fingers -- more for effect than actually looking at it, since he's already well aware of the room listed on it.]

It does. My apartment is rather nice, actually, but I can't say I'm fond of high places.

[ just a cat, then. a talking, mainly human-shaped cat. okay, he'll roll with it. ]

High places? You could have said that part in the first place. Hopefully someone will be willing to accommodate you. In fact, I'm pretty sure it won't be hard. It wouldn't do to be overtly picky about who's staying in your place when all of the homes were given for free.

[he hadn't quite meant it like that, but hey. he laughs, in any case.]

It's hard to be picky when begging for a home.

You seemed okay with being picky about high places.

[he looks half apologetic for having been caught red-handed, but mostly not -- and his tone is nothing but playfully dismissive.]

My! You'll have to forgive this cat's silly and impractical tendencies, then.
