[What is this flat chested child talking about...]

And what do you deem 'intelligent' input, precisely?

[DON'T YOU DARE VOCALIZE THAT DESCRIPTION UNLESS YOU PUT NO VALUE IN LIVING...]

Look, all I've gotten since I started asking around is a bunch of blank stares! As if nobody around here ever knew what the word magic meant. It's a suffocating atmosphere, you know? I need to be able to exchange a little know-how with some people with know-how. Different know-how, even, since I'd bet a whole lot that the properties of magic aren't exactly like those old goats back home are teaching it.

[He thinks he could take her. Although. That is... probably not actually true.]

I suppose that depends on what it is they've been teaching you.

[mmmhhh.] That depends, though...

[she wags the pencil at the seal a couple times.] Compare and contrast! That's what I want to do. I've been nosing around in these books for a few days now, but I'm not seeing anything referencing a demon god or power source that's viable around here. Most of these stories contradict each other, anyway. So I'm not going to have much of a jumping off point when it comes to magic here that way. It's easier to find out just how things work for other people who grew up with magic somehow.

I generally find it is a matter of personal alignment, though the inherent mechanics of different worlds seems to lend itself to certain rituals. My own base reality was much more flexible, however.

Flexible how?

Anything we choose to pledge ourselves to sufficiently may become a source of magic.

[squinting...

her mouth puckers in a scrutinizing way, leaning forward with her hands on the floor in front of her.]

So if you pledged to a rock...orrr...a piece of grass...

[He shrugs.]

If that is all the power you desire. Some choose to be... humble.

[There is thin smirk at his words. He clearly does not think much of such a choice.]

So - wait. That power doesn't just spring up just because you say this-or-that's your power source now, right? Where's the source?

Everywhere.

[He tilts his head slightly.]

You reshape existence with magic, why shouldn't all of existence power such an act?
