Look, all I've gotten since I started asking around is a bunch of blank stares! As if nobody around here ever knew what the word magic meant. It's a suffocating atmosphere, you know? I need to be able to exchange a little know-how with some people with know-how. Different know-how, even, since I'd bet a whole lot that the properties of magic aren't exactly like those old goats back home are teaching it.

[she wags the pencil at the seal a couple times.] Compare and contrast! That's what I want to do. I've been nosing around in these books for a few days now, but I'm not seeing anything referencing a demon god or power source that's viable around here. Most of these stories contradict each other, anyway. So I'm not going to have much of a jumping off point when it comes to magic here that way. It's easier to find out just how things work for other people who grew up with magic somehow.
