[In the not very far distance, a young dragon chases and runs away from the waves crashing and dying down on the sand. They may be noisy and fun to play with, but he's clearly trying to avoid getting his paws wet today.]

[so eventually, the always-intelligent bird makes another poor attempt at breakfast-getting (failing again). it labors to get to the air again, making a hideous racket as it does so, nearly crashing into yonder dragon - using it as a vault to spring off, rather, and getting back up high, complaining all the while.]

[Bernie lets a surprised and undignified yelp, trying to snap his teeth at the attacker. Post-startle and fully alert, he stands on one place, watching the bird intently. You look kinda funny... but ohhhh you're lucky I can only glide rn.]

*There soon is a large tentacle reaching out to touch the bird; you see, Karin's been pretty curious about it for a while, and couldn't help but want to touch it, to figure it out more. She usually wasn't fast enough to grab one, but maybe this time...

At least, she could figure out why it was so loud.*

[the captain stopped his march when the bird's complaining became more of terrified screeching than anything, turning and craning his head to find that tentacle in the air just as it grazed frantic tail feathers.

the bird, through some miracle mix of squabbling and flailing, reeled up and around, coming to a graceless crash on the sand at harlock's feet. with his eyes still fixed on the tentacle, he slowly came to kneel as a show of attentiveness for his frightened friend.]

*Darn... well, that didn't work. She swam down, and crawled into her machine, before wheeling out*

Hello? Is that animal yours? What's it called?

[aaand harlock here takes it all in stride. talking octopus, sure. this is another planet, so whatever man.

his kneeling posture does straighten, though, because he may not be outright weirded out but he can certainly be cautious of the thing that tried to snatch his pal.]

He's his own.
