Firo strolled down the path to meet Mao. His signature hat had been left back at the cabin, he was pretty sure if he left it to chance the poor thing would wind up Mao's victim through some accident. The promise of a fight-and with somebody who knew magic!- was enough to put an extra spring in his step, and it would be nice to see his friend. He spotted Mao up ahead and quickened to a run.

"Hey there!"

He drew up to a few paces away from Mao. "How've ya been?"

"Great." His smile just grew wider. "My friend, Tytree got there recently!"

And Mao just couldn't help to be glad to see his friend again, even though they were now both stuck in this bizarre city.

"But what about you, Firo?" He asked with a bit of curiosity. "Did someone you know arrive here too?"

Firo beamed back. He would've felt pretty bad if one of Mao's friends hadn't showed up after he'd practically promised somebody would. "That's great!" Remembering his own feelings at getting stuck in Splendor he laughed and added, "Well, maybe not for him, I guess, but ya know what I mean."

"My friend Luck, actually! He ain't too happy about it, but he should settle in fine. Everybody always said he's well-adjusted." Being forced into the Mafia business at an early age, Luck probably had to be.

"Yeah, I know" He said, nodding at Firo’s words, and then, when the other mentioned his friend’s here Mao chuckled a little.

"Well, it's always good to see your friends again, right?"

And then, he thought that he wanted to meet Firo’s friends and see what kind of people they really were, simply curious about it. But, since they were all stuck in Splendor for some time, the redhead was sure he’ll be able to meet those people at least once.

"Well then~ are you ready?" Mao asked taking his tonfas and getting ready for the spar- that was what they came here for, after all.

"You bet!" It had been awhile since he'd seen Luck, and even longer for Luck. And then there was also the bonus of coming from the future and being able to know things Luck didn't, for once. Having all three of them, Luck, Claire and himself, together again without having to worry about work would be fun.

He peered curiously at Mao's tonfas. After the fight he'd have to ask to get a closer look, but, then, he hoped he'd get a pretty good look at them in action, too. He grinned and shifted his position to get ready for Mao's attack. "'Course I am!" He waited to see if Mao'd move first; he preferred starting a fight from a defensive position, just out of habit.

And Mao grinned back.

"Well then, I hope you're ready for this!"

And then, he closed his eyes, as a red circle appeared right beneath his feet. A quick spell was good to start the battle, right?

"Flare Shot!" He called as a fiery missile was send right in Firo's direction.

"I'm always re-" He stopped mid-word as the circle appeared under Mao. He shifted his weight to make dodging easier, having almost no idea what was coming next and wanting to be ready.

"Whoa-!" The 'flare shot' looked rather brilliant, but there was no time to admire it. He hopped to the side to avoid it, but still felt its heat singe him a bit on the side as it went by. Not stopping to check the damage, he dashed forward to try and kick at Mao's side. Nothing too hard, he had to keep in mind that Mao was still a kid, even if he could magically barbecue Firo alive.

[ooc: Thanks for the link!]

so sorry for being so slow ;A; disasterroar May 12 2011, 20:25:43 UTC
Firo’s kick was blocked by Mao’s tonfa. As a magic user and a kid (no matter how much he hated to admit that) the redhead wasn’t neither specially strong physically nor really resistant towards attacks. In fact, it wouldn’t be good if he actually got hit, and so he had to avoid it at all cost.

After blocking the kick, Mao jumped back and performed another quick spell -this time a wind one, and so a green circle appeared under his feat. It took him only a matter of second to cast.

"Wind Edge!"

Mao hoped the blade-like wind will be able to push Firo away.

Don't worry about it! :D immamartillo May 12 2011, 20:36:04 UTC
Firo watched Mao move back for his next move. He was pleased to note that even with a close strike like that Mao was different from most of the bozos he got stuck fighting. Somebody actually concerned with defense wasn't something he frequently ran into.

And then there was that whole magic thing. He stayed ready to move, but waited to see what kind of attack it would be. The name didn't sound too threatening, but he moved back and to the side to avoid damage. With some surprise he noted how strong that attack actually was; even after he moved away it still nearly made him stumble over.

He came back with a roundhouse kick at Mao's side and a swinging back fist to his head. If they made contact, he planned to use them to push Mao back. Actually doing the snap would be more painful than necessary and just plain mean. "That's an interesting one."

And then there was another attack. That was exactly why Mao usually didn’t fight alone. Mages were suppose to strike enemies with powerful spells from a distance, after all! And with Firo always coming back like that, Mao had only enough time to cast his weakest spells.

Mao this time also blocked the hits - with a slight difficulty and horribly aware that he couldn’t do much while trying to defend himself.

There was only one thing he could actually do now.

"Look out!" He warned, jumping as a crimson flames shot from under his feat. That was one of the very few non-magical skills Mao could use - the Force Flame, and if Firo didn’t want to get seriously burned he had to get away from the redhead.

For a heartbeat he wondered why Mao was bothering to warn him. Then he noticed the fire and sprang back as quick as he possibly could. Needless to say, since Mao hadn't said any spell name he hadn't banked on more fire. But it just made things more interesting.

Long-range isn't his specialty. To be perfectly honest, he couldn't really do it at all. A more rational person might have taken some time to regroup, or at least thrown a rock or something, but Firo decided to sweep back in for another close-range attack. He feinted a jab for Mao's face and then went to sweep his legs out from under him.
