Writer's Block: Lights Out

Jul 11, 2009 08:47

Hm... Well, there are two times.

The first was at our home in North Carolina. I couldn't have been any older than five, so I don't remember it that well, but I do remember that we had guests over and my mom was making a big dinner but the power went out before she even started cooking, so... I remember coloring in a dark play room with my sister and my friend. It was actually kind of fun. :D

The other time was when I was in third grade, so I was probably eight or nine. A hurricane was coming through, but after we'd gone running like scared little girls when Hurricane Charlie came through (and it hit ORLANDO), my mom decided that we should stay at home. So we did, and eventually the power went out. My sister and I were really excited though, and we'd spent forever getting out all sorts of games and flashlights and making sure that our GameBoys were charged (*eye roll*). Then the power finally went out, and my dad got out this big waterproof radio/flashlight thing, and we were listening to the weather on the radio. Then my GameBoy ran out of power, so I wasn't too happy about that (lol). I remember playing cards with my sister at some point. The worst part of the whole thing was, there was no air conditioning, and it took me like three hours to get to sleep. -_-;

Which reminds me of other hurricane stories (particularly the Hurricane Charlie thing, which involves four fish, two guinea pigs, a chocolate Lab puppy, two kids, a mom, a dad, a minivan full of clothes and other necessities, and a long drive to Georgia). Oh, so now you want an explanation? Fine. :D

I was in third grade, and me and my sister were waiting in the car circle when the principal came over the intercom and said there would be no school the next day because Hurricane Charlie was heading pretty much right for us. Then my mom came up so me and my sister got in the car and my mom says, "Guess what?"

And we go, "What?"

And she says, "We're driving to Georgia!"

And we go, "No we're not." And it went on like that for maybe a minute, before she says, "Look in the back."

So we look in the back and there's A) four suitcases full of stuff, and B) our chocolate Lab puppy, who couldn't have been older than one at the time.

Apparently, our mom had found out about the whole Hurricane Charlie (which will be from here on out known as HC) thing and decided that we needed to drive for forever to get away from the storm. So we drove to Georgia because there were like no pet hotels left, and our dad met us that night with our guinea pigs (-_-). My sister was all freaked out about her four fish (which we had left at home).

Well, you probably know that, instead of hitting us, HC went around and hit Orlando (which sparks another story, but that's for another time). So we drove home and found out that we hadn't even gotten any wind. But hey, we got to miss a day of school! :D

teh FISH is OUT ^_^
