FWA has come and gone, and we're all back home now.
kylernipclaw, myself, and our roommates Aurora and Straid all went together. This was Aurora and Straid's first con, so we had high hopes for the weekend.
The drive up to Atlanta was awesome. It's only an hour and a half-ish, so we listened to music on the way there and talked the whole time. The weather was great and it was just a really fun drive. Then we got to the Holiday Inn where the con was being held. We got registered and took our stuff up to our room. We'd been told they were out of double rooms, but when we got to ours there were two beds, so we were pleased.
Once we'd finally unpacked, we headed downstairs. Aurora and Straid's eyes were huge at all the furs and especially the fursuiters. We hit the dealers' den and the artists' alley, and we spent the bulk of Friday night sitting in the Alley while Kyler and Aurora did artwork.
Eventually, Kyler and I ran out for a cigarette and bumped into
kaicub, who had finally arrived. I didn't get a chance to introduce him to Aurora and Straid until Saturday though. Speaking of Straid, he spent the weekend getting in touch with his inner geek; he spent the bulk of his time either in the LAN room or the table-top gaming room. I'm fairly certain he had a blast.
We also finally got to meet my good friend
thegreenarcher in person. I've known Joelly for a billion billion years but this was the first time we'd ever gotten to meet one another in person. Joelly is awesome and sweet and amazing and he's been through sooooooo much with me. It was wonderful seeing him finally.
We also got to spend some time with Daddy Goliath and Evlix the Grampa Bear. Not nearly enough though, since we hardly ever get to talk to either of them and Kyler and I love them both to bits. DG is doing really well with his new business and Evlix is as awesome and fun as ever. Aurora and Straid absolutely loved Evlix, they're hoping he can come for a visit soon. And so are we!
We also bumped into a ton of people I kinda-sorta know but don't know that well, like Rama and Lilpup and Loupy and Gravis and Whitewolf and Basalt and Paddlefoot and and and and...
However, something was really off about the con and it just wasn't as fun as it could've been. I dunno if it was the bitterly cold weather or if it was the poor hotel layout, or if it was the lack of really interesting events on the schedule, or what the problem was. But there just seemed to be too much drama and not enough fun in the air. We still had fun, but it wasn't the ZOMGCOSMICPARTYOFENJOYMENT that R.C.F.M. was last year.
So, all in all it was a pretty fun weekend but I'm glad to be home. My feet hurt, my shoulders hurt, I danced too much in my boots at the dance and got a blister... But it was worth it. Aurora and Straid both loved it, and Kyler and I had a really nice time catching up with our friends. We got some AMAZING artwork done (which I'll have to find a scanner and scan it in) and we both bought a tail. It was a weekend of ups and downs, of fun and boredom, of friendship and drama. We may or may not be going back to FWA next year, but if we do hopefully it will be a more fun con. But for all my stateside friends, we will definitely 100% for sure be going to RCFM!
