Hello, livejournal!

I am alive! Things are good. Really good, even. My impromptu summer hiatus from fandom and lj was not just to do lots of home improv, but to do another round of fertility treatments. And it was unexpectedly extended when I found out right before Labor Day weekend that holy shit, one of them actually worked - I'm knocked up! I'm just about 11 weeks now, and have been laid up with some major nausea since about six weeks. Morning sickness is an evil lie. Mine's basically morning until night sickness. No throwing up, thankfully, but constant, unrelenting nausea only really held at bay by mint tea and tortilla chips. I've got a handle on it (though it's complicated eating with both the gluten and lactose intolerance - I would kill for a saltine and some ring bologna right now), but it's pretty much wiped me out for the last two months.

Those of you who've been hanging around here a while will likely have seen me talk about about dealing with infertility for some time. In fact, this baby is six and a half years in the making. I was pretty damned shocked when the home test turned up positive. I might have wandered around the house for an hour clutching the test stick and hyperventilating "OMFG" over and over. So the dwinn and I are pretty ecstatic about the whole thing.

Other than the nausea and general first trimester exhaustion, things are good. Had my first midwife appointment today, and after some searching they were able to get the heartbeat on the doppler. It's the second time I've had a chance to hear it (standard protocol for my reproductive clinic is a seven week ultrasound, and we got to hear it then), and it's still fucking amazing, this whole idea that I'm actually gestating a whole 'nother human being. You know, when it's not making me want to throw up. Thanks kid. You'll be hearing about this for the rest of your life, trust me.

So I hope to be around posting and writing more as my body settles into this new creative project. In fact, I'm off to Writers Retreat this weekend with the usual suspects, where I will hopefully get a fic draft finished enough to go off to beta.
