I swear the next time I hear phrase "why buy the cow when the milk is free" used in a non-ironic context, my head is going to spin around and explode from pure rage. It is incredibly demeaning commentary about women (and men, for that matter), wrapped up in a cutesy little aphorism package, and anytime I hear it used I am overwhelmed by the desire to punch the speaker in the head.
I have actually heard it in a fannish context, on the samandjack list, in a discussion about Sam after Chimera aired. It's stuck with me because I was astounded to hear it in that context. Sadly, I'm no longer surprised by demeaning comments about female characters in fandom.
