note that I am only referring to public posts in this discussion, not locked posts or information taken from locked posts.

Some recent fandom kerfluffles revolve around the public/private divide, specifically in reference to livejournal. The very useful stargate_weekly newsletter has (quite sadly) ended in anticipation of avoiding future arguments over the ( Read more... )

I have to say I totally agree with you. If there was something that I intended to be read by certain people and them only, I'd make it so that they are the only ones to read it. I have no expectation that random people won't read the public parts of my journal at least once in a while.

As for the lady who declared that it was a "private" conversation, *rolls eyes* is the only way I can respond. I once was chastised for carrying on a telephone conversation while in a dressing room by a couple of people who talked to each other as loud as they could from one end of the room to the other, and let their young children, their young male children, roam the dressing room unattended while they did so. People have strange and interesting definitions of "rude" and "private."

You'd be surprised how many people (or corporations, hard to tell which is which) want to live in the world where that style of post is the implicit norm.
