Dog trauma

Our little 6lb Chihuahua Peanut was mauled my the neighbor's puppy this morning. She got out of the yard to go adventurin' and we heard some yelling next door. Victoria brought Peanut back and she looked pretty undamaged, but within a few seconds we noticed an expanding bubble on her side.

We rushed her to doggie hospital and they did some triage and got some fluids in her and X-rays. The vet at Oberlin was closing up so we brought her to Quail Corners for surgery. She's recovering now and the doctor had to remove a lower rib and reset her stomach back into her abdominal cavity. We're bringing over some food for her tonight and we may be able to visit her a bit while she recovers. They're going to monitor her and though she's not out of danger yet, we're optimistic.

It's going to cost the earth, but that doesn't matter as much as I thought it would. I cried for a bit when we got to Oberlin and I had to sit on the floor for a bit to keep from fainting. All Peanut does is sleep and eat and try to chase dogs and... love us without reservation.

Update: Peanut passed away just before 3:00 this morning. We are very sad to lose such a mild sweet and loving dog.
