The doors shifted, at least with the little things in them, rather than closed. Pavel moved out of the way, found a corner with a nice view and sat back in the shadows.

Well. Almost.
But he wasn't going to think about that now. There was no way anyone could tell, just by looking at him. And they had plenty to look at anyway, what with the leanness and the lank hair. He got some looks, certainly, but it seemed his glare was stronger than he felt, and no one gave him any shit. Hell, he'd seen the wrath of Pike, been sequestered in McCoy's sickbay for longer than anyone he could think of, and survived. That had to give him some cred, even if how he'd gotten there didn't.
And even that might be useful.
He frowned slightly at the blackened walls, and like the others, immediately thought of Scotty. What was wrong with everyone on this goddamned ship, he wondered.
The doors shifted again to admit him, and knowing what he did, he could detect the difference. The humming was fucking creepy but so, then, was Uhura's smile. And the immediate sense Kirk got that they weren't alone.
