She loved him, and he loved her. He had to leave and asked her to join him. But she couldn't. She had to look after her siblings. At that time, females were in charge of taking care of their siblings while the parents worked. He said he would be back, he would come back and be with her. So they got married and said their goodbyes then he was gone...
60 years she waited. 60 years she turned down loves eyes and blew away cupids arrows. 60 years she waited and he never came back to be with her. She loved him. He did love her.
One day she sat with her sister's family at a little shop in Malaysia. It was hot and sweltering, like any other day, listening to her niece and nephews mind their own children and it saddens her heart that she could not have any of her own. As she looked around, she saw a face. A face so familiar, so handsome. She thought she must've died and gone to heaven. It was him!! 60 years older. It really was him!! He looked so happy, with children running about and minding their own businesses.
He looked at her. She looked at him. They knew. 60 years passed so fast and here they were. Coincidence?
She stood up and took nimble steps towards him, still not believing her eyes. Her face brightens and lights up, her youth regained. He stood also, looking surprised, happy and yet sad. It has been too long.
Happy tears falls down her face as he holds her hands. How long she waited to finally see his face, to touch his hands, to hear him speak. Her sister's family stood up and greeted everyone. She kept looking at him like he was heaven and that was all she needed and will ever need.
He looks back at her and sadness fills his eyes.
I'm married. I've been married for the past 60 years and this is my family.
The world shattered. The dreams broke as the words pierced her heart, her very soul.
And the world went quiet.
