Lili Rides Again

First ride of the year! VRRRROOOMMM!

If that were not awesome enough, I got to work early, to a big brown bunny sitting in the planter basket five feet from where I parked, near my office window. He was not at all afraid of the Vrroom of the bike.

Happy spring!

The scents, the sharp, crisp air, a perfect 60-ish degrees, the instant alertness of a finely tuned string being thrummed for its first note, like shape-shifting into wolf form after a dormant hibernation.

Ok, that is a bit melodramatic. But there IS this sense of FIERCENESS, like hunting or racing, where your mind and body just turn on, amp up, and the feeling is a combination of lust, delicious challenge, and a satisfying sense of righteousness as you become hyper-aware of the sleepy, confused, lost movements of other drivers around you...like a small, sleek Cape fox darting amongst a sluggish but deadly herd of wildebeest. You have to keep your eyes and big pointy ears as wide open and alert as possible, and keep your movements tight and controlled, to flow in tune with the unpredictable traffic to avoid being squished.

That is an even MORE dramatic description. :) Needless to say, I love the first day of riding. It beats a cup of double espresso, and doesn't leave me jittery.
