what's a crime is that you saw the Lucy version before the R. Russel version, which is the original and is sooooo much better!! ( I'm very opinionated about my Mame, it's my favorite movie)

I really did not know which one was the better, but Lucy and Bea Arthur with singing was too tempting to pass up.

Actually, it may make seeing the original last even better, as it would be a crime to be disappointed in Lucy!

i LOVE the rosalind russell version. it is so full of fabulous! i thought i had a copy of it, but apparently i don't, or i'd drop it off post haste!

The Russell version is much, much, better. I'd almost go so far as to say the Ball one is a travesty, but it does still have its moments. The 1958 one is a bit heavier handed though in pointing out that you can only really get away with living life that large if you're of a class to always have (or at least blithely assume you'll always have and thus impose on others for) the resources to do so.
