My score on the analytical writing test was exactly what I would have guessed if I had to bet money on it -- 4.5 out of 6. I was hoping for a 5, but having not really prepared, and having been so happy just to finish with a coherent feeling.... I got what I would have expected. It would be interesting to see what the scorers' comments were.... but I didn't receive any details. Probably have to pay extra for it, if its even available. Won't change anything, so not worth it.
So, on the writing, I did better than 54% of GRE test takers..... which means the other 46% did as well or better than I did. I don't feel too bad about that. I'm sure there's something valuable to be learned by adhering to their rules and conventions... but I'd rather do it my way!
My verbal and quantitative scores were given to me right at the testing site (which I was not expecting!). 650 Verbal (better than 93%) and 800 Quantitative (better than 94%.... which means 6% of GRE takers get the perfect quantitative score). So I've known about those scores for a while.... and no surprise there either, because those are the same as the average over all my PSAT and SAT scores from 15-20 years ago. Ugh.... its one thing to say "fifteen to twenty years ago", but it takes typing it out like that to really make me feel OLD.
