Aaaaaaaaaaaand switching gears here.

I'm probably the last person on earth to hear this, but in case, by chance, I'm not -

Okay, this is awesome. From the start I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars, no handle bars, an innocent, childish declaration of feeling invincible and powerful to the conclusion I can hand out a million vaccinations/Or let them all die of exasperation/Let them all heal from their lacerations/Or have them all killed by assassinations/I can make anybody go to prison/Just because I don't like them/And I can do anything with no permission/Cause I got it all under my command/Cause I can guide a missile by satellite, by satellite, by satellite. It's a brilliant fucking song about how power can lead to destruction, how we can go from that innocence and wonder to feeling like we have the right to determine who lives or dies. It's a commentary and a cautionary and lyrically and musically I think it sums up a lot of how I feel about the state of things (which, I don't often do political here because I . . . don't). Seriously, the fact that it's rap/hip-hop should not deter you from this.

And in a completely opposite direction from that. Again.

So. I think watching this all back to back took a lot of the dramatic bite out of the series' second finale. After having *just* watched the first series' finale where Guy stabs Marian and she "dies" I felt sort of just . . . "Oh. They've sort of telegraphed this and it's sad and all . . . but" about when Guy stabs her again. I feel like they retrod a lot of ground in the second series with regards to his and Marian's relationship to the point where it kind of *had* to end that way. The writers, I think, totally backed themselves in a corner. He wanted to control her, she learned to manipulate him, and all around I kept wanting it to go farther . . . a little darker. Which I don't know that they really could considering it's not really an "adult" show.

I did like it more than I thought I would. I confess, I thought it was going to be all camp, all the time. But there were a few episodes that really surprised me. I did like them taking Robin in a more fanatical, obsessive direction in the second series, which I think they needed to do to draw the parallels between him (Robin) and Guy. I have hope for the third series, which I'll most likely watch now. I wish that the series had a less "WTF?" moments w/r/t character developments and the writing, while I feel it's improved, still feels weak and like they fall back on quite a few "easy outs".

All that said, it wasn't like it was excruciating pain to watch it. The actors are all very easy on the eyes and there's enough humor and sly pop culture winks to keep it moving along. My favorite aspects of it were of course the twisted relationship Guy had with Marian, which is probably why I felt at least a little disappointed in the second series finale, as well as the fact that I don't think they developed it as fully as they could have. But, it should at least be interesting to see where they go from there.
