Very disturbing ...
This morning on my way into work, I saw something I never expected to see. I've started taking a new route which puts me northbound on I-20/59. As I was approaching the Bessemer area, I noticed police and fire-rescue on the southbound side of the interstate. There seemed to be some police tape positioned in a "v" shape from where the police cars were (apex) spreading out towards the trees off of the road.
I figured it was just another Birmingham commuting wreck, but as I approached it didn't look much like a wreck. My eyes eventually wondered up in the direction the police tape was heading - into the woods - and then I saw him. There was a man hanging from one of the trees in the woods.
I looked away quickly out of shock. I didn't look back. It was very disturbing. Who was this person? Why in the world did he do this? Did someone else do this to him? Why was he on display for everyone on the interstate to see?
As soon as I arrived at work, I IM'd Mark to see if he was at the radio station. I figured I'd see if he'd heard anything. Before I could even tell him what I had seen, he told me he'd been getting a lot of reports about the hanging.
What a very disturbing start to my day. I'll post later if I can find a news story.
