Alright, so I know I've barely been around - I've been trying to scan LJ when I can, but sometimes you guys are insane! (I also need to pare down my groups that I don't follow so much anymore...)
Of course, although I've been reading, I haven't been writing. So here's the status of life:
We've mostly settled into the apartment. There are still boxes in the front room. But my 'office' has always been the clutter collecting room. I'm slowly making progress, although I fear we need at least one more bookshelf. And that's without even getting stuff from Mum and Dad's place. Ah well. I should probably weed through old books again at some point to see whether there's anything I should be parting with.
Work is going really well. It's refreshing to have a job that's less than 1/10th the stress of banking. It's also very weird to have far less stringent deadlines. I have to administer a nationally controlled exam in a few weeks, and I'm a bit nervous about that as it's my first time having to actually read through the directions and all, but everything is scripted, and I've already done the sitting through the exam and collecting it after bits. My boss has been very impressed with my work, as well as the fact that I've been able to make things happen - like getting a color printer and a fax within a month of my getting here. I receive high praise for the wording of my emails, and thinking ahead about things that will affect the students. There's my banking experience right there; customer service and diplomacy.
Even on days that I wake up tired and would love to get back into bed...I don't loathe the idea of going into work. I don't feel my blood pressure spike when the phone rings. As an added bonus, I'm picking up terminology and getting to sit in on lectures that are related to my psychology interests.
And because I've been taking the T in to work, I never need to worry about driving. Even on rainy days, the walk to the T isn't bad in the least - it's less than 5 minutes. I get to read for about an hour and a half a day, and as a result, since the end of August, I've torn through the Left-handed Syndrome, three Dragonriders of Pern books (it was one book that compiled three), the first two Sookie Stackhouse novels, I've been reading magazines and the local morning Metro newspaper, and now I'm reading one of my old Psychology books. Seven books in two and a half months is a good count for me.
I finished my Sessions.edu program as of last night, closing out my Graphic Design Business class with a B+ (which was my lowest grade of all my classes...but that's because I took an F on one of the 6 assignments...). YAY! MASTER'S CERTIFICATE IS DONE!!!
I found my Unjournaling book, and I think I may start using it again over at
lycoris_radiata. I really need to get back to writing things that aren't just
_dark_chaos specific.
Monday, I go to the doctor for my first visit with my new local doctor. I need to remember to make and bring a complete list of information I need to relay and questions I need to ask.
Had a great birthday. Devon got me Professor Layton and the Curious Village, and I LOVE it. I also got ice cream cake - which Dev also made :D Thank you to all who sent along birthday wishes. I daresay it was the best birthday in a while.
And with that, I think it's shower time.
