The Summer of 2004

Moments of Significance

Firsts:
*All-night karaoke session.  Twice now.  I hold the record at somewhere between 7 and 8 hours of continuous karaoke.
*Camping at a rock festival. Fuji Rock 2004 at Naeba Ski Resort in Nagano ken.   A mind-blowing experience of lots of dancing, great music, interesting people and very little sleep!
*Crowd-surfing. During The Libertines I got a Japanese guy to hoist me up and off I went. Tanoshikatta desu yo!
*Solo camping.  I've done loads of travelling on my own, but can't remember camping completely alone.  It was very fulfilling.  Got a fire going in the rain with only what I found on the beach (and matches, of course!).  One of the proudest moments of my life.  I felt that I could do anything.
*Sex with a Japanese guy. Ooh la la. Words fail me. What a beautiful body & soul!!!
*Sex with someone over 30. Same guy.
*Fling. Same guy. Have seen him twice now. Does that still qualify as a fling? No plans to meet again (he lives quite far away), though I feel we will cross paths again.
*Complete submission. Rafting on the Yoshinogawa, our raft flipped and I got sucked under for what seemed like an eternity. It was beautiful and clear and powerful and I somehow managed to get a breath before being sucked under again at a very turbulent point. Didn't panic. Realised there wasn't a lot I could do except try to hold my breath for as long as possible. These lungs are huge, baby!
*Rock-climbing. Okay, so it was at a climbing gym, which doesn't really count, but it was very satisfying. Have been twice and now find the gym a bit boring. Want to get out in nature and climb.

Farewells:

*Kirsty chan left in a whirlwind of parties. Still sadly missed by everyone in her posse.
*Matthew left at about the same time. Such a brilliant guy.
*Bing has just left. Truly marked the end of an era for me. There's too much to say on this. Sometimes it's better to just feel things.

I had a fantastic summer.  It absolutely flew by.  I'm looking forward to the autumn and even more so to the winter - snowboarding!  I've also just got myself a job at the coolest club, working just two weekends a month.  I'll get to learn more Japanese, hang out with very cool Nihonjin, dance for free and get paid!  What could be better?!

I absolutely LOVE Japan!
