Always. Everyday.
It's five minutes since break started. "Don't you want to get something to eat? Chips?" Ryu suggests. Hayato glances at him. The two of them are sitting under a tree together.
Hayato's gaze lingers on Ryu's features for several moments before drifting upwards. His head tilts back as well, revealing much of his neck, perfect smooth skin that Ryu wants to kiss right on the spot. Ryu tries to take his mind off it. Hayato speaks, but not in answer to Ryu's question, "The sky's blue." Ryu blinks twice, and then his eyes finally leaves Hayato's neck and looks up at the sky.
"The sky's always blue," he says quietly. "Apart from when it's grey. Or black." The sky is blue, more blue than Ryu has ever seen it before. It's like the blue that only a bright felt tip can achieve. Ryu feels his heart do a little flip inside.
"I like it," Hayato comments. "I like it when it's like this. It's pretty." He extends his arm, reaching up to the sky, and then he closes his hand, grasping a fistful of air. The trees rustle gently above them, and it's a nice, delightful sound. The sun is shining, but it's not a blinding light, and it isn't hot because of the cool breeze. "I wish every day could be like this."
"Today's a school day," Ryu reminds Hayato. "You don't like school." Hayato laughs. Ryu is sitting so close to Hayato that he thinks he might be able to feel the laugh as Hayato's body shake with it.
"True," Hayato replies. "But when the weather's like this, I can put up with anything." His eyes flutter shut and Ryu thinks about kissing those eyelashes. "Even school."
"We have five minutes before break ends," Ryu murmurs. And then Hayato opens his eyes and Ryu looks away.
"Can you feel it?" Hayato asks, his voice dreamy and distant and Ryu thinks that he must be somewhere up in those white clouds above.
"What?" The clouds are floating across the sky slowly. "The wind?"
"No. This." Hayato turns to Ryu and smiles. It's not a huge grin, but a small, peaceful expression, barely noticeable. He leans foward and presses his lips onto Ryu's, and his right hand finds his way to Ryu's left. Fingers laced, they kiss, and it's not the usual type of kisses that Hayato gives, rough and raw and urgent. This one fits the mood, like the breeze, like the sky, like the clouds. Hayato's tongue steals its way into Ryu's mouth, cautiously tasting and making sure that he'll remember this unique taste forever.
It seems to last so long that Ryu is surprised the bell hasn't rung for the end of break yet. They break apart, and there's still two minutes left, according to Ryu's watch. "This?" Ryu says questioningly, raising an eyebrow. Hayato shrugs.
"You know what." It's not a proper reply, but Ryu finds it a satisfying answer. This is the feeling that hangs unspoken between them. Hayato's head falls onto Ryu's shoulder, and Ryu doesn't tell Hayato to move like he often does. Instead, he stays still and looks up at the endless blue sky and absorbs the moment.
The bell rings. Neither of them curses the end of break. They get up, both with contented looks on their faces, and when they walk into the classroom, the class suspects there's some secret that only of the two of them know.
Maybe there is.
The End
