Week 0 - Introduction
Hello LJ Idol peeps,
An introduction is a hard thing to do. Posted one and totally deleted it. Great start to remembering how LJ Idol works! Good thing it is Zero week.
The basics -- I'm 63, but always have to do the math to remember my age because I don't think of it. Just the chronology of the years. I'm female. Haven't been to LJ for years and when I was here before I was in a huge transition.
I'm living in a spiritual community in Northern California and have been here, more or less, since 2009. My service to the community, or job, is to use my gerontology background to develop an Aging in Place environment here in the rugged country. Some have been here 30, 40, 50 years and have not put a lot of emphasis on savings and retirement. The emphasis is on meditation, yoga, community and self-reliance. We have real challenges that usually get answered in the 11th hour. By the end of next year, around 60 people will be 70 or older.
I'm happily married for the second time. You'll likely hear more about him in the future. Wasn't looking for a relationship when I came to the ashram, but he was there and it has been a wonderful partnership. We laugh, we meditate, and we enjoy one another's company a lot. He's my best friend and my best volunteer when I need help!
I have two children in their 30s, both unmarried. They are sharing a house that my daughter owns in Bend, Oregon. It was going to be temporary, but they are still sharing the house. They own part of my heart.
I've forgotten how much time LJ Idol actually takes. Look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible and hearing your stories, reading your posts. One post at a time....
