Aussie Open
Well, the check for my tuition almost certainly won't be here on time, so I'm going to have to pay with my credit card (and pay a "convenience fee") and pray that it shows up before the bill arrives. So to distract myself, I've been watching tennis. Since it's in Australia, all the good matches are at 2:30 AM or 5 AM my time. Just watched Jo-Wilfried Tsonga clobber Rafael Nadal in straight sets. It's refreshing because pretty much every tennis competition I've ever watched has been the Rafa and Roger show on the men's side. But I'll tell you what, if he's not The Next Big Thing, Philipp Kohlschreiber will be. Yeah, he looks like a big ol' dork and possibly a Goa'uld in that picture, but the way he just went about the business of playing top-level tennis while Andy Roddick tossed stuff all over the place, repeatedly insulted the chair umpire and the fans, and basically threw the last of his toys out of the pram gained my lasting respect. So I added him as an interest, and found out that I'm the only one who has. All these years on LJ and it took me this long to be this weird. Best thing about staying up until well after sunrise watching tennis? Not hearing people yammer about Tom Brady and his boot day after day.
I'm worried about my friend who is worried (even if only theoretically) about murder-by-spouse, but realize that there's really not much I can do, being so far away with no money, no connections, and only a passing familiarity with the law. :(
