A welcome challenge - Prequel

Someone whom I presume is associated with Alliance University College in Calgary recently challenged me to explain how I deal with the Bible and with living a holy sexual life as a gay Christian. This is an important and welcome challenge, so I will be posting a series of related posts to my journal. Pray for us as we discuss, that our conversation ( Read more... )

As someone who was told by her former pastor that I am going to hell, etc, etc ad nauseum beucase I am a lesbian, I'm interested to hear how your belief systems work.

I'm no longer intersted in persueing Christianity as a religion or belief, as I don't believe in it, but as someone who knows what it's like to be in the church, I want to know.

Also, what're you doing in TO? Did you move there now, or are you visiting? :P

Sorry, inside joke with a friend of mine. Every time I said, "Smartass!" he would reply, "But my ass is smarter than your head!" I guess you had to be there.

While I am disappointed that you no longer want to pursue the formally Christian path, I can understand your frustration, so I'd be more than happy to let you eavesdrop on the conversation. I'd be interested to know (for curiosity's sake) what you think of Jesus, himself? Who is he? Does his teaching fit into your journey at all?

Love and peace,
Rob

Quick additional comment: I think Christians who use hell (assuming a literal place) as a weapon are fundamentally off-base. I think Jesus had a lot more to say about those who oppressed the poor and ostracized and broken than about any other group of people. Your former pastor cannot conclusively state that Jesus doesn't consider you his friend. That's kinda up to him to decide. Never mind, that's a soapbox I won't climb higher on right now.

Plenty of time for that in the formal posts.
