Dying
Orcha rang his tie out. He wasn’t going to cry. This was stupid. He shouldn’t care about these people! They barely even cared about him! He took care of himself on this ship, with help sometimes from Gala and the rest of the spiders.
“It isn’t true!” he bawled, holding his wrinkled tie over his face. The entire ship echoed his pain; they barely showed, but they were indeed there. The crew seemed more nervous, shuffling around like the worst had already come.
“She’s dying, Orcha.”
“No, Gala! She can’t be!” he later broke out into a run down a corridor, brushing by various crewmembers, tripping once and scrambling to keep going. He remembered where the sickbay was - he had woken up there first. It was the first place he had seen of the entire ship.
He skidded into the room, breathing hard, hands pressing into the walls until his fingers turned as white as the crew’s uniforms. “She can’t be,” he whispered weakly. Several wide eyes turned to him. The figures were gathered around a bed. He shouted at them, “she can’t be dying!”
“You should not be here,” one of them whispered.
He glared and rushed further in. He squeezed in-between their bodies without difficulty or resistance. A woman lay on the bed, her hair short and blond, eyes closed. She looked so weak, so tired. But she had to hold on! She was the Eclipse’s captain! She brought Orcha aboard - made the command to pull in his boat! Besides the spiders, she ran everything! “Elenora!” he moaned, taking her hand in his wet, tear covered ones. “Please, you have to hang in there! Everyone is counting on you! They have faith that you’ll make it! So please! Please!”
